“I never meant to cause you any pain, I only wanted one time to see you laughing, I only wanted to see you Laughing in the purple rain”.
Groundbreaking in his field, BUA is internationally known for his best-selling collection of fine art posters – The DJ being one of the most popular prints of all time. His subjects generally focus on the world of Hip Hop, Rap, DJ’s, Break Dancing and Urban themes. Because of his love of all music, he decided to create the Icons of Rock Series of giclees on paper.
American musician Prince achieved worldwide fame in the 1980s with ‘1999’ and ‘Purple Rain,’ the latter album also serving as the soundtrack for the popular film of the same name. Prince was the son of musician parents. He became interested in music at an early age and taught himself how to play the piano, guitar and drums. In 1978 he signed on with Warner Brothers and in an early interview he commented about his style, “Early in my career I tried to compensate by being as flashy and as noisy as I could.” Over the next three decades Prince produced multiple albums, performed at the Grammy’s and Super-Bowl, and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Sadly, Prince died in 2016 from what has been described as an accidental drug overdose. Bua’s image of Prince embodies the “flashy and noisy” Prince at the beginning of his career, while incorporating the symbol he created when he dropped his name and became the “Artist Formally Known as Prince.”
With only fifty in this special Icons of Rock edition this is a must have for any Prince Fan.
