This self-portrait by Ronnie Wood was created on the eve of his 60th birthday. Aptly named Wa Wa Wood, Ronnie is playing his electric guitar, undoubtedly using the wah-wah pedal to make his distinctive sound. Created in 2007, this is a limited-edition serigraph on canvas signed by Ronnie.
Ronnie Wood was born in Middlesex, England, and was the youngest child in a musical and artistic family. Growing up, Ronnie’s love of music went hand in hand with a love of drawing and sketching that took him to Ealing Art College in his teens. British art schools were then a melting pot for the new rock ‘n’ roll and rhythm & blues scenes. Deciding that he could meet more girls as a musician, Ronnie dropped out of art school and joined the band The Thunderbirds. He has played with some of the greatest British bands, including Jeff Beck, Eric Clapton, Rod Stewart, and Faces. In 1976, he officially joined the Rolling Stones and has been their guitar player ever since. He never gave up painting during that time and, in the late 1980s, decided to launch a second career in art.
Walnut Street Gallery and the Art of Rock and Roll™ began selling Ronnie’s art 1989. One of their first shows that year was Ron Wood and Baron Wolman, the first chief photographer for Rolling Stone Magazine. The show was a sellout, and the gallery continued to sell his work into the ninety’s. This is an earlier piece and is considered quite rare. It has been in the gallery’s vault since its physical location closed in 2012, and we are just now making it available for purchase. If you love the Stones this is a must for your collection.
