Charlie – Rock and Roll Circus

Charlie Rock and Roll Circus by John Entwistle: This is an original pen, ink, and marker drawing by John Entwistle, one of the founding members and bass player for THE WHO. Even as a child, John loved to draw caricatures of the people around him. As an adult, he continued that hobby and, in 1996, debuted his art in a series of exhibits that corresponded with the WHO Quadrophenia tour in America.

John’s subject matter was always the musicians he knew and those he admired. Charley Watts was one of those musicians. John’s dry sense of humor resonates with his depiction of Charley in his Rock and Roll Circus costume. The Rock and Roll Circus was a concert show organized by the Rolling Stones in December 1968. The show was filmed on a makeshift circus stage with all the participating bands dressed in Circus garb. This is a rare one-of-a-kind original. The art is framed. Perfect for the discerning fan of both The Rolling Stones and The Who.
